Description
This 6-night itinerary adds the extraordinary Turtuk village to the classic Ladakh circuit — a destination most tourists miss. Civilian tourism opened here in 2010, and the village offers a fascinating glimpse into Balti culture, with terraced apricot orchards, stone houses, and some of the warmest hospitality in Ladakh.
The 3-hour drive from Hunder to Turtuk along the Shyok River is exceptional — barren Ladakhi mountains give way to lush green pockets that feel like an entirely different world. With 2 nights in Nubra Valley, you have the luxury of exploring both the sand dunes and Turtuk without rushing.
The journey continues to Pangong Lake for an overnight stay, followed by a culture-rich return through Hemis Monastery, Thiksey, Shey Palace, and the 3 Idiots Rancho School. This tour is ideal for travellers who want to go beyond the usual Ladakh highlights and discover its hidden gems.

Although the roads are marred by landslides and shooting stones, the 3-hour drive from Hunder to Turtuk is nothing less than exceptional. Throughout the journey, you have the company of the Shyok River and vistas that define the barrenness characteristic of Ladakh — punctuated by surprisingly lush pockets of apricot orchards in the Balti villages.
After exploring Turtuk village, we drive back to our camp or hotel in Hunder for overnight stay.

Travel tips
Carry your passport and necessary permits at all times if you are a foreign traveller. Always carry warm woollen clothing even in summer — temperatures at Pangong and Turtuk drop significantly at night.
Carry all essential medications including altitude sickness remedies. Prepaid SIM cards do not work in Ladakh — only post-paid BSNL, Airtel, Jio connections function.
Avoid photographing army camps and restricted areas. Reach Leh Airport at least 2 hours prior to departure.
