Pahalgam looks simple on a map, but local sightseeing has two rules many first-time visitors discover late: outside taxis are commonly restricted from the inner valley routes, and Baisaran is usually done by pony or on foot. This page explains how to plan the local movement without confusion.
The main sightseeing set is Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari by local union taxi. Baisaran, often called Mini Switzerland, is a separate pony or walking plan from Pahalgam town.
Best time: Apr-Oct, with snow options in winter
Typical duration: Half day to full day
Cost snapshot: Indicative taxi union routes often range from INR 900-3,000+ by vehicle/route; pony rides vary by meadow and route.

Fix route, return point, waiting and price before starting.
Pahalgam inner valley sightseeing commonly operates through local taxis. Even if you arrive in a Srinagar vehicle, you may need to switch to the Pahalgam taxi union for Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari. This is normal; budget for it rather than treating it as a surprise charge.
Recent local-market references list routes such as Betaab Valley from roughly INR 900-1,600 depending on vehicle type, Aru from roughly INR 1,000-1,800, Chandanwari from roughly INR 1,200-1,800, and combined Aru-Betaab-Chandanwari loops from roughly INR 2,000-3,000. Treat these as estimates and verify the current union board at the stand.
For Baisaran, confirm whether the price is for return, how much waiting time is included, whether side points are extra, and whether the pony handler will accompany you throughout. Wear shoes with grip and avoid overloading ponies with heavy bags.
Keep one day for the local taxi loop and another half day for Baisaran or Lidder-side walking. Trying to do Srinagar-Pahalgam transfer, all three valleys and Baisaran on the same day usually feels rushed.
